The Problem Every Service Business Faces

When providers have direct access to your clients, the risk is real.

Direct Client Access

When a provider has your client's real phone number, there's nothing stopping them from going direct. For a typical home service client, that's $7,200+ in lifetime revenue gone.

You'll Never Know

It's not uncommon for home service businesses to lose 20% or more of their recurring revenue to contractor poaching — and most owners don't realize it's happening until the client stops booking.

Contracts Don't Work

Non-competes are expensive to enforce and often unenforceable. By the time you involve a lawyer, the client relationship is already gone.

The Big Players Use Proxy Numbers Too

Proxy phone numbers are proven technology used by the biggest platforms in the world.

🔎

Google Local Service Ads

When clients call from a Google LSA, Google routes it through a proxy number to track the call. You never see the client's real number — they're protecting their platform.

Yelp & Thumbtack

When clients contact you through Yelp or Thumbtack, they mask the phone number to prevent you from taking the conversation off-platform.

🚗

Uber

Drivers and riders never see each other's real numbers. Uber masks both sides so neither party can bypass the platform.

🚕

Lyft

Same as Uber — Lyft gives drivers and riders temporary proxy numbers that expire after each ride.

🏠

Airbnb

Hosts and guests communicate through masked numbers. Airbnb prevents direct contact to keep bookings on-platform.

🌭

DoorDash

Drivers and customers get temporary proxy numbers for each delivery. Once complete, the number is recycled.

If billion-dollar companies use proxy numbers to protect their revenue, why aren't you?

Why We Built ShieldComms

I'm a cleaning business owner in the Chicago area. I lost recurring clients to contractors who went direct — and I didn't realize it was happening until they stopped booking.

So my co-founder, a former engineer at Microsoft and NVIDIA, and I built ShieldComms. We use it in our own business every single day.

Now we're offering it to other home service operators who are tired of losing revenue to the contractors they trained and trusted.

How It Works

Three simple steps to protect your client relationships.

1

Client Books a Job

A booking is created and a local proxy number is automatically assigned. Example: (312) 555-0147

2

Provider Gets Proxy Only

Your provider texts and calls through the proxy. They never see the client's real number — and you see every message.

3

You Stay in Control

Monitor communications, get alerts on flagged messages, and close the channel when the job is done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do contractors know they're being monitored?

Yes, transparent disclosure is recommended and we provide guidance.

What if a contractor asks for the real number?

You'll see it in your dashboard. You can address it directly.

What happens when a job is done?

The proxy number can be reassigned or closed. If the client texts, it routes back to your business.

Is this legal?

Yes. As the business owner, you have the right to manage your business communications. We recommend informing all parties that messages are monitored.

How does pricing work?

$49/month includes 10 active assignments, ~$4.50/month for each additional. $49 one-time setup.

How do overage charges work?

Additional assignments beyond the included 10 are billed at $0.15/day per assignment. Charges accrue daily and are invoiced at the end of each billing period.

What happens when I cancel?

Your subscription stays active through the end of your billing period — proxy numbers keep working and overage charges continue to accrue for active assignments. Delete assignments you no longer need to reduce your final bill. At the end of the period, all numbers are released.
